The Innon Step Challenge

The Innon Step Challenge

In November, the Innon team participated in a step-count challenge.  With Christmas being a time for indulgence and January known for being a little grey and bleak (full of New Year's resolutions that may or may not be kept), a little fitness challenge in November that everyone could participate in was the way to go.

The goal was simple: get as many steps in as possible. The game was on.

Participating team members located their smart watches and discovered health apps on their phones that had previously gone unnoticed. Everyone had a different method for getting in their steps.

The dog owners in the team already had existing routines, so factoring a walk into the day wasn’t a major change, but once the step counts started to be recorded, the competition got real. Normal walks with the dog become longer walks with the dog. Some team members whose morning walk was to the kettle started their day with a walk in the park. It was almost looking wholesome.

Photos of the team out walking were posted in the chat. Banter was exchanged.  GIFs were traded. Competitive streaks were starting to show.

Then came the treadmills.

We noticed a team member was now taking meetings, standing up and moving, but staying in the same place.  Without much probing, it was confirmed that they had their laptop resting on a treadmill. Needless to say they began to rocket up the step count scoreboard.

It would be a lie not to say that some search histories began to show phrases like “Cheap Walkpad” and “folding treadmill”. Others looked at treadmills in their own homes, acting as a clothes horse and thought, “Nah, I won’t disturb you”.

While some debated whether a walk on a treadmill counted as a “proper walk”, the steps still counted, and the team kept moving.

The overall winner of the Innon step challenge was our  Finance Director Christabelle who racked up an impressive 508,201 steps. In second place was Sorin, the General Manager of Innon Romania, who achieved an equally impressive 475,009 steps and in third place was our Partner Success Manager Durvin, who, with the help of his dog Chester managed 466,090 steps

Competition aside, everyone who took part enjoyed being part of the challenge and finished this month a little fitter than they began with the team managing to walk a combined  2,888,469 steps.
